Forget the past [posted by Troy]
Mark McGuire really is a philosopher. Let's not talk about the past ever again. The past is past. It is over. It is done. Let it go. Come on! Let's talk about the future. Retirement is easy. You don't need steroids if you are retired. That is great!

Cold War [posted by Troy]
When I was working on my history major, I read a great deal about George Kennan. We was the person who pretty much created the US strategy of containment used in the Cold War. His theory was very controversial as it led us into Vietnam, but it also has been attributed to the fall of the Berlin wall and the end of the Soviet Union. The ongoing debate about the containment strategy will continue for decades to come, but clearly Kennan left quite a mark on history. I was sad to see that Kennan passed away this week. I have to say that I don't agree with containment, as it caused more harm than good around the world, but Kennan lived a pretty amazing life and did many great things as a diplomat and scholar.
