Prom Night

Alan and Lea

The theme for the prom was 'Hollywood'. The rec centre was decorated with a lighted runway, vintage posters, photos amd life size cut outs of the likes of Humprey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, an old car, photos of the grads dressed up as Hollywood stars, etc. The photo I'm holding of Alan got cut off, but it was his Mike Myers look. The hair is his own, before he got it cut. It didn't take much work to make it look like that either!

The prom was quite unusual, in that it was a family event. We were ushered into this beautiful room where we had nibblies, and then were seated to see the grand march, where all the grads walked two by two down the runway and around the room to end back up on stage. Then they put on a bit of a Hollywood show with music, stand up comedy, etc. and there were a few speeches. After that came more food and finally the dance itself. That's when most families left the grads to their own devices. Alan hasn't come home yet but from what I understand they were going to be served pizza around midnight and then a hypnotist was going to come! Bizarre. The dance was supposed to go until 3 a.m. and then they'd go off to the after-prom party.

Another Celebration
We just got word last night that the daughter of friends of ours is going to be married on September 24th in Victoria. They're East Indian, so it will be a huge affair. We'll all go down for the wedding of course, but there'll also be a number of pre-wedding ceremonies. The daughter, Ladi, was floating on air last night when we phoned....the two families (it's an arranged marriage) had just set the date 10 minutes earlier.

Job Offers
A couple of days ago, Iris was offered two summer jobs within five minutes of each other! She's chosen the one that involves working with a professional performance group from Calgary to create some pieces for a summer street fest in Whitehorse. Lucky girl!
