Decidedly Jazz
I booked Iris' flight to Calgary yesterday. She'll be going there in August to attend a week of summer classes at Decidedly Jazz. Her ballet teacher here thinks that Iris' dance style and personality would be a good fit with what they do there, so she urged Iris to go. I guess the teacher is starting to think about possibilities for Iris after high school, and says it's really hard to break into a dance company unless they're familiar with who you are and what you can do. Iris will put her scholarship towards the trip. I've agreed to pay for the plane fare and she'll pay for her room and board with the money she earns at her summer job.
It's also time to pay for Alan's flight to Edmonton at the end of this month - he's going down with the Yukon's Canada Summer Games team for a tourney, as a warm-up to the big event in August.
So it's an expensive time. However, our kids have never been big on expensive presents, or toys, or fancy clothes. What I have tried to give them is as much opportunity as possible to pursue their passions, and that has often involved sending them 'Outside'. To me, it's money well spent.
