This evening, I was planning to enjoy watching a movie and eating a
nice healthy dinner. I had the following salad all prepared and
ready to go:
It was made with green leaf lettuce,
cocktail tomatoes, avocadoes, goat cheese, and pine nuts. I
drizzled some extra virgin olive oil with some white balsamic
vinegar. I then put it in my refrigerator to chill it
slightly. I then had a Netflix all ready to go in the DVD player,
The Manchurian Candidate (2004). It all came to a crashing halt
when my mother decided to interrupt my evening.
For a brief update, my mother is currently homeless. She was
evicted from her former place of residence. Furthermore, my
nephew who has in her care has been taken by the Department of Social
Services in Baltimore City to be placed with another "resource."
I should remind the reader that this was all due to her bad
choices. I had decided that I could not assist with this--I could
not provide money, a place to stay, nor a place to put her possessions
after the eviction. Over the years, I have done this too much,
and doing so merely "kicked the can down the road," so to speak.
Well, today, while at the office, she called complaining that she had
nowhere to go. Of course, I became a bit angry, since now Jason
has to come to the rescue. I was able to end the call, but then
she called me this evening at home. She gave me the sob
story.
Now, I have a guest in my place. I am so angry about this.
I am angry that I am the one that has been approached to save.
the only reason why is because I live in the city. If I never
lived in the city, I would have never been bothered. It makes me
wonder sometimes why I do live in Baltimore. It is times like
this where I question my decision to live in the city that I grew up
in.
Let's face it: going to school in Boston was a way for me to escape the
problems my mom and stepfather had as they began to emerge my senior
year of high school. Spending my summers at Ocean Pines was a
continuation of this. Now, since I am close by, I get to be roped
into the mess my mother created. I am so unbelievably angry right
now, it is taking all of my control to not scream.
I know I promised that I would change the way I would deal with my
mother, but it is hard to do when you answer the phone and have to deal
with a blubbering mess on the other end.
So angry.
