Earlier this afternoon, I received a call from one of the Directors here at work. Apparently, there was a nice new Dell Axim X50V which was needed for our CIO. He was giving a presentation at a retreat the President of the University and his Cabinet were attending.
The presentation was at 1:00 PM, and I was brought the PDA at about
noon. Even better, the PDA was new--just arrived fresh from
Dell. So, I had to actually assemble it--put in the rechargeable
battery and get it plugged in.
For a little background, I have gained a reputation as a "PDA Expert"
of sorts. When I first started working at Maryland, I had one of
the early color Windows-based PDAs--a Casio Cassiopeia E-100.
I got it working with our calendaring software, and I got the
reputation for being good with PDAs. As a resule, any time
someone important needed some help with their new gadget, I would get
the call. Today, they wanted to get it working and connected to
the Internet.
I got it working in my office in all of 6 minutes, and I informed the
CIO's assistant that it should work. I showed her how it
basically worked--a 5 minute tutorial--and some web sites that could be
accessed. I also said if there was a problem to let me
know. With that, I ran off to run an errand and get some
lunch.
I got back to the office, and I had a voicemail from my CIO's
assistant. She was passing along the message from our CIO to
me. He wanted to make sure I received his thanks, as the
presentation went off without a problem and the PDA worked great.
I am now all warm and fuzzy as a result. Of course, I would not
mind a new PDA, like the one I just setup, as thanks, too. :-)

As Cleveland once said on Family Guy, the engagement of Tom Cruise to Katie Holmes is just plain nasty. Nothing like a 42-year-old man engaged to a 26-year-old, especially when the man divorced Nicole Kidman. No offense to Katie, but I think that's a stepdown.
What was the thought process in Tom's head? I imagine it went something like this:
Let's
see, I divorced a beautiful woman who has won an Oscar and been
nominated for another. Now, I am dating a nubile young woman who
has really not been in anything notable except "Dawson's Creek."
I will get engaged to this new girl, since she is shorter than my
ex-wife. At least the difference in height won't be so bad.
Show me the money!
Choosing Katie Holmes over the hotness that is Nicole Kidman?!?! INCONCEIVABLE!
