Bid for race day off to a flier

IC Coventry 17 November - Leamington's bid to host the 2007 European Cup of Race Walking was given a flying start at a gala dinner attended by Olympic and world champions from across the continent.

Guests of honour included Italy's 1980 Olympic champion Maurizio Damilano, now chairman of the IAAF race walking committee, Spanish AF vice-president and IAAF race walking committee member Luis Saladie, and Russian national coach Maris Peterson, a member of the European AA race walking commission.

Chinese athletics set higher targets at 2008 Olympics

www.chinaview.cn -  BEIJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Unexpected success in Athens Olympics has boosted China's expectations for track and field events at the 2008 Games.

Yu Weili, deputy head coach of the Chinese athletics team, tolda press briefing on Thursday that Chinese athletics will have higher targets in 2008 following its historic breakthrough in Athens.

"Race walking, women's hammer and women's marathon are among the events where we could make a breakthrough," he added.
