19.11.2004 - leichtathletik.de - Andreas Erm (sports club Potsdam) and Maik Berger (Berlin LG east) are also off alititude training in
Bulgari using skiing as a way to train in the winter,. One week later
André Hoehne and Sabine Zimmer will follow them.
Andreas Erm is 'our best and steadiest race walker', said German team
head Ronald Weigel only Melanie Seeger does not participate in
Bulgaria: "I do not take part in the ski camp this time, because I
mean that I do not over-load myself there. I'd rather train in
potsdam."
Weigel is trying tell help put Erm's painful disqualification during
the olympic 50-Kilometre walk behind him. "There was no reason to
disqualify him. But it is idle to discuss afterwards decisions of the
judges."
Weigel, who had few problems with the judges in his walking career,
referred to Robert Korzeniowski's four disqualifications beforew
becoming the world's best walker. "Gauder was a giant walker, but
Andreas Erm has more talent. If he keeps healthy, I do not see
problems for the next years."
For the WM 2005 in Helsinki Weigel sets a clear goal: "A medal.
Otherwise we do not need to train so hard." Since in the middle of
Octobers we began at home with training. Now in Belmeken at 2000
metres altitude, depending on the snow, the general basic endurance
training is done with cross-country skiing in the hilly area."
It is also a good preparation for the next training camp in January in
South Africa. After a short resounding season in February with a start
with the German indoors Sindelfingen, follows two week training camp
in Teneriffa, to a certain extent as preparation for the Grand Prix in
the Mexican Tijuana. Subsequently, a further high altitude training
camp.
Faithfully after the old saying: 'The athlete is made in the winter'.
