Alwin mentions using a large measuring cup for mixing your pancake batter in, since it also makes delivery to the skillet much easier.
Not rocket science, I know. But watching newbies do things is a good way to remind yourself of the basics you learned a long time ago and now take for granted as "best practices". This made me think about how some folks incorrectly use the notion of "intuitive". To an expert, a method like Al mentions may appear "intuitive", but really this kind of behavior is learned, not innate. The learned (it's not intuitive!) behavior applies whether we're talking about making breakfast, or web sites, or software interfaces -- for instance, my mancub (at three-and-a-half years old) is pretty darn good now with a mouse, but it took him some time to practice using it.
I guess my point boils down to this: facile != intuitive, while intuitive == learned. Rats. Jinxed myself. Murphy has his name tattooed on my technology-butt today.
No web app for me at work today. Isn't that just crap-tastic. Good news: Sometime yesterday afternoon, my ability to access the web application at work suddenly came back using my browser of choice.
Bad news: I did nothing to make this happen. Neither did my team's dbAdmin or the guy who admins the MS SQL and CF servers do anything to create this change. Spooooooky. I'm walking on broken glass now at work...
