And there are other, more obvious, differences, too...
Alwin finds out about the other (statistically speaking, roughly) half... Boys are different. And cool. To think I was one once. Hard to believe. Al, baby, I'm sorry you not had the joy of teaching the finer points of bachelor-life to a mancub yet. I can still remember fondly when SHE took her first fall weekend afternoon off when the mancub was about 18 months old. That day he was introduced to the finer points of NFL football, beef jerky (great for getting thru those teething moments, guys!), and couch napping lying on Daddy's chest. SHE almost dropped a cow when she found out what went on (beef jerky is still one of the old-reliables he'll eat though, just to rub it in. Heh. [cue Tim Allen sounds now])... Look on the bright side, though, Al. There's always grand-kids. :-) 11:29:35 PM [] blah blah blah'd on this [ blinked via ViewFromTheHeart ]Mark points to Brian Carnell's rant about the NYT deal that Userland entered into... But it's not like UserLand is replacing a publically available service with their closed one; NewsIsFree still has NYT feeds. It's tough to argue the Radio service isn't closed, of course: it is. Given that not everything should be open--UserLand obviously doesn't exist in a completely open world, since Radio isn't free software--is it not understandable that Dave Winer would rather have closed New York Times feeds than no New York Times feeds? (Modulo NewsIsFree's, that is.) I've not seen anyone mention anything about yet, but in the rush to judgement that has occurred (where lots of folks are blaming only DaveW for the NYT feed being a closed service), there appears to be a surprisingly obvious oversight from these otherwise very bright people. They seem blinded to any other possibilities due to their passionate Dave-hate (Hey, I've had my moments too, so I'm willing to forgive if they ask for forgiveness...). Given the number of legal beagles I suspect the NYT has on retainer, I'd think that the demand for exclusivity (a closed service vs. an open service) was initially brokered by the NYT folks, and was a bitter pill DaveW was willing to swallow to get their official OK to use their XML feed. And as Mark said, better closed than no feed at all. I never heard DaveW say that this was the only way to get a NYT feed, just that this is an officially approved by the NYT folks way to get the feed, available to Radio users. 12:16:49 PM [] blah blah blah'd on this [ blinked via markpasc.blog ]
