Try Linux from a CD
Knoppix is a bootable CD that brings up a KDE graphical environment so that you can learn about linux without having to install anything at all. It doesn't write to you hard disk at all (unless you decide to install it).

Progress in mapping human genetics. This is a really hard subject ethically. I can understand the drive to explore and learn everything we can. The next step is where it gets fuzzy - what do you do with the knowledge once you've learned it? Understanding the generic basis of disease is pretty cool and the potential to have designer drugs for just your particular generics is an interesting idea on how to cure/avoid/slow-down various conditions.
