Superinfections Spawn Mutant HIV
HIV is a case of it's worse than it looks. The above link is a story about how multiple strains of HIV combine to mutate. When the target keeps changing, it gets really hard for the drugs to hit the target.

Bionic Eyes Benefit the Blind
Interesting progress on bionic eyes - it'll be years before lots of problems are solved, but it's cool to see progress in this area.

AOL kills Netscape
Netscape is finally dead, gone and never to return. They produced some really cool stuff and some junk. Mozilla still exists and interesting spinoff projects have appeared (like Camino for Mac OS X or Firebird for Windows). Microsoft wheeled and dealed to get back with AOL and that was the indicator that this would eventually happen. Good luck to the folks who need to find jobs now.
