Wired: The Diamond Wars Have Begun
Armed with inexpensive, mass-produced gems, two startups are launching an assault on the De Beers cartel. From Wired magazine.

Interesting article - raises a lot of good questions and I'm sure scares the diamond industry.

Mercury News: Leaving the phone company out of the loop
The ``magic'' Tribolet refers to is ``voice over Internet Protocol'' (VoIP), a relatively old Internet technology that recently has become as easy as the everyday telephone.

Voice over IP is getting more and more promising. This article points to the current companies that make using VoIP easy. I'm figuring that if any of them have even a reasonable success, then they can grow and add some interesting features - like support for Wifi, which would translate into using wireless networking to be able to make phone calls - this would replace your current wireless phone.

VoIP needs to evolve even more - so that I can setup my firewall to protect the network but allow only the appropriate network traffic through to the VoIP phone. The current products seem to require way too many UDP ports to be open. Good beginning though.
