Whoa - We just had a thunder storm roll through and was it ever impressive.
I was going up to pickup dinner (fish & chips from a local pizza place) and the sky was getting dark. The rain started at a traffic light. I parked by the middle school and walked down to the Fleet ATM. The rain was impressive - changed directions ever minute or two. I had taken along a BIG umbrella. On the way back to the pizza place, the rain was really heavy and was coming down in front of me. So, I put the umbrella in front of me and walked straight into a telephone pole and banged my head right off of it - dumb.
The whole thing struck me as an example of God's amazing power. The storm was impressive, but when we do dumb things, then you're bound to get a thump in the head. :-) I wouldn't want God to be mad at me.

"He's not one of these who has to have the latest and greatest model," said communications director Dan Bartlett, a close presidential confidant and a 10-year Bush employee. He placed Bush "about mainstream" on the spectrum of people who can barely operate their VCR to those always eager for technology's latest rage.

An accidental spill on a CD was the inspiration for a new method to test genetic material using just a CD drive and an inkjet printer. The team that developed the test says the procedure could bring sophisticated tests to labs that can't afford costly equipment. By Amit Asaravala.
Interesting idea - they're working on software to pickup the errors on a CD which will show up because of a chemical reaction. I like the idea that genetic tests could be so cheap that you could do them at home. The intent seems to be that software for analysis of the CD will be open source. This make it possible to do these kinds of tests cheaply anywhere.

This summer the grounds keepers took over a couple of small squares of grass and fenced them in with black plastic. It looked like a nice little area to grow some fragil plants. Well, I've been busily walking to and from work and my car, I hadn't actually paid much attention to the patch.
Yesterday I took some pictures and found a pumpkin patch - well, for HUGE pumpkins. These two pumpkins area betweeen two feet and three feet wide.
Here's a couple of pictures of one of the two pumpkin patches:
