Caroline - the Acorn huntress
One of our dogs - Caroline - is a great acorn hunter. Everyday I try to take the dogs out for a couple of walks (once in the morning before work and once after work). If we go around the block, then there are LOTS of acorns to be found and crunched. Caroline taught Sam that acorns were good. Then Eli learned about acorns - but it took him a while because he was crunching acorn caps for a little while.

Caroline will pick up a couple at a time and try to smuggle a couple into the house for later. She's gotten pretty creative about smuggling them inside. She'll drop them behind the door so I won't see them and then she'll go back to get them later. Sometimes she'll just saunter into the livingroom after a walk and lay down and then she'll hold her mouth closed - hoping that we won't notice she has a few acorns.

The Acorn Huntress
Come one, come all - let's go for a walk
I need to go hunting all around the block
Let's go searching, looking round the ground
Acting up and playing just like a little hound

Hey - you squirrel - watch who you mock
I've been looking round here for your chattering talk
Once I find you, I know next what will be found
Acorns - bushels and baskets just waiting to be found

I'm the Acorn Huntresses - that's my claim to fame
I hunt down cute little acorns and it's all just a game
Come here, come here little acorn just to be found
Hey! There's another acorn - crunch it quick in a bound

For me - fall is the best time of year
it's when the acorns come down and they bring me such cheer
In the spring and the summer, sometimes I'm blue
But in the fall, if you're an acorn I'll be coming for you
