Enron execs hid losses, made millions
Enron executives reaped millions of dollars from off-the-books partnerships while the energy giant violated basic rules of accounting and ethics, according to a report commissioned by Enron's board of directors. [CNN.com]
...DOH!...It's nice that the board figured it out...of course they also claimed to have only now found out about many of these things...talk about asleep at the wheel -- or just more lies, take your pick!...mj

Bush Seeks $591B In Tax Cuts
President Bush's new budget will propose $591 billion in tax cuts over the next decade, even as he battles to turn federal deficits back into surpluses, documents obtained Saturday by The Associated Press show. [IWON]
...hello?...hello?...is there anyone in there? It would appear that Bush and his supporters are out of their minds. We have a deficit? We are in a war! We already jeopardized our budgetary future with too many cuts for the rich. This is what you get when you run the government with a Houston mentality...an Enron like Presidency...what kind of moron would propose this sort of madness? Put it into the Social Security system, pay down the debt, but NO MORE TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH!!!!...mj

"Cheney's Smoking Gun"..
This story is catching fire. The link is growing between Enron and energy policies that screwed California, leading to rolling blackouts and billions in higher rates. Was Enron leading the administration down the primrose path? It would appear so...

This story keeps getting worse as the onion gets peeled. I want to see what Cheney is hiding! Why won't he release those documents?...mj

Houston, we have a problem
The city where deregulation is king is in Enron denial -- and won't let go of its wildcatting ways. [Salon.com]
...my favorite part was Huston recently awarding a $198,000 contract to Arthur Andersen...or course the mayor isn't talking since Enron was a big contributor!...these people are sick...mj

Least Competent People
Bob Bowling, 32, shot himself in the thigh on Jan. 7 while practicing his quick draw on a snowman (Willard, Ky.). And Paul D. Dimoff was accidentally shot in the chest at 2 a.m. on New Year's Day by the shotgun he had rigged as a booby trap to fire at burglars (McVeytown, Pa.). And Juan Manuel Lopez, 25, trying to make a point of his manliness (in front of a would-be girlfriend) by firing his gun at the floor of her apartment in September, accidentally shot himself in the foot (St. George, Utah).
