Check the fine print
BILL GATES SAYS security is Microsoft's top priority, but just whose security does he have in mind? Consider some of Microsoft's recent boilerplate legalese -- language you or your company might already have unknowingly accepted -- and then decide for yourself...
...The reader was stunned. "By changing that term in the PUR, Microsoft has found a creative way to obtain authorization from users to access their workstations at will," he said...
..."The idea that Microsoft can change our software without notifying us is totally unacceptable," said one corporate IT manager. "Any alteration to our standard configuration can only be rolled out after careful evaluation and testing. Does Microsoft have no clue?" [InfoWorld]
I found the link to this on Dan Gillmor's site. It shows how one hand at MS can shake your hand while the other is busy stabbing you in the back...mj

Testing...Testing
I have been busy modifying the template for my blog. I've added the image at the top and modified some widths. I have also added links and will be updating my personal site Jardeen.com to provide links to this site. The work never ends. One other surprise, I was looking at my site traffic and in the last 30 days I have over 3500 hits on this site and over 11,000 page views on my personal site...cool...mj

Trust me, I'm From Microsoft
What's Really Behind Microsoft's New Commitment to Data Security [I, Cringely]
Brilliant column that skewers MS on "Trustworthy Computing." Cringely may be the cranky man, but when he attacks, he leaves no buildings standing...mj

Stupid Web Site Tricks
I enjoy surfing. I read a lot of sites and as a Mac user I read the Mac rumor sites. Among them is Think Secret. While I like the content and continue to visit, I am nearly willing to drop them due to one factor. I can deal with ads. BUT 10 ON ONE PAGE!! TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, 7 ARE ANIMATED!!!!
Whew, glad I got that off my chest. I emailed the person who runs the site, complaining about one ad which was blinking so fast that I was concerned about it inducing epilepsy. Without a doubt the worst Internet ad I have ever seen...his response...well the ads pay the bills, so tough!
It is true that the bills have to get paid [ask me with no job, no money, and a former employer who owes me over $8,000], but at what cost of pain to your viewers. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE END THE PAIN...mj
