Go Figure...
A couple days ago I went and checked out Scottish Lass' blog. I mean..hey it's getting over 2000 hits a day...must be something good right?! It turns out that she had links for some contest in Great Britain called Pop Idol. It sounds like Star Search meets bubblegum meets The Monkees. Ahhh, 15 minutes of fame.

So, what had been the effect -- today she posted to her site that she has had to strip her site of content in order to cut bandwidth -- I think her ISP must be going nuts. FoxTV could do a reality show called "When Hits Go Bad..."

About four years ago I had one of my mac icon sets get written up in MacAddict. That same month a magazine in Japan listed my desktop patterns...the net result was a little nastygram from Earthlink...my bandwidth had exceeded 1.5 gigs!! I had to find another server to host the files or I would have been hit with an extra $200 bill, fame is a harsh mistress...mj

Why I Love My Mac...
In my house are a couple Macs and a couple PCs. People ask why I use a Mac? They wonder what the difference is...

When I use my PC's I get things done. I do work. Task are completed and games are played.

When I use my Mac I have fun. It is a more personal experience. It is more of an expression of who I am. It is more than just a tool.

That is why Mac users are as passionate as they are.
I got some good news from Apple today...more on that later...mj

Patent Insanity
...Micro$oft Patents Style Sheets

Microsoft has been awarded a patent that could give the company control over important open standards used in the construction of Web sites.

Web developers are concerned that the patent, awarded to Redmond last month by the US Patent and Trademark Office, could threaten the progress of related Web-site design standards. Microsoft says it will allow broad and open licensing of the stylesheets technology. [Wired]

...I think I am going to get sick...just what we need. This is another bad patent, and one that MS should renounce, or turn over to the W3C...another way for MS to control an 'Open' Standard...next thing we know someone will claim to own hyperlinks, or the 'idea' of transmitting music and video over the Internet for commercial purposes ...mj

The End of 'Stock Option Crack'?
Legislation meant to "plug a corporate tax loophole"--which lets companies claim large tax deductions without declaring the cost as an expense--could put a huge crimp in tech earnings. [CNET News]

...sorry, but it's about time. For too long people have been led down the path. Work is about a job, a salary, and perhaps some security. The reliance on options has hurt people, and hurt companies. This will cause the tech sector to get off the 'stock option crack habit', and join the rest of the world...the real world. It might also produce some reality to earnings reports...mj

...I was looking at my referers (it's weird to see how people end up on this site...) and ran across this really cool site...I love the photos and the music's great...just the right feel to the lomo images. It makes me sad that I am not doing more photographs these days, due to money issues. The images convey an honest feel of someone deep in the heart of ny...mj

Entertainment industry
...puts consumers in cross hairs

By Dan Gillmor
If the business people who rule the entertainment industry had been as powerful 25 years ago as they are today, you'd be breaking the law if you set your videocassette recorder to tape your favorite Olympic event for later viewing. The VCR, assuming the entertainment industry would have allowed a manufacturer to sell it, would not have a fast-forward button because it would let you skip through the commercials without viewing them.

As for tape recorders, you would not have been able to make a copy of the music you just bought so you could play it in your car. [Siliconvalley.com]

...I need to make this clear...these people are out to screw us. They want to dictate to you what, when and how you will entertain yourself. They will do anything, and we are the victims...mj
