Grocer puts new way to pay at shoppers' fingertips
Shoppers at West Seattle Thriftway yesterday were eager to be among the first in the nation to "pay-by-touch" for their groceries, using their fingerprints instead of plastic cards or cash.
By noon, more than 150 people had their index fingers scanned in the store and had registered their credit or debit cards. They then continued to the checkout counter and paid simply by touching their finger on a red postage-stamp-size scanner and pushing a couple of buttons.[Seattle P-I]
Without a liveness test it is too easy to spoof a fingerprint. While at ABI we had a fingerprint system that we used to show how easy it was. This means that it is marginally safer than just using a PIN. Still, it's nice to see biometrics starting to make some headway. Down the road I think we will al be using biometrics for many things that we today do with plastic...mj
