Candidates Start Your Weblogs

I'm still amazed that many candidates have incomplete or poorly organized websites but are ignoring the possibilities of using inexpensive weblogging software and inexpensive hosting to get the word out. At the very least a candidate website should have up to date event information. I repeat my offer, I will help any and all candidates set up a weblog and obtain hosting. E-mail me at jworr@operamail.com.

2003 Denver Municipal Election

The Denver Post is running a column "Spin Cycled", today that details more dirty tricks in the Mayoral campaign. From the column, "A letter signed by 151 Democrats supporting Ari Zavaras for mayor showed up on the windshields of cars parked at the Republican Lincoln Dinner." The Zavaras campaign denies culpability so it must be some prankster trying to hurt his cause.

Calhoun on the State of the City

Patricia Calhoun, editor of Westword would not be considered a great fan of the current administration at City Hall. In this editorial, "The Meter's Running; From a world-class city to a world-class pity, she blasts the Administration on several fronts. Says Calhoun, "Lower downtown is the city's sacrifice zone, with Platte Valley loft projects eating up lots and the Union Station renovation eating up spaces, and meter readers (or VCAs, as parking management calls them) feeding off those sorry drivers who manage to find spaces in LoDo -- nickel, dime and quartering them to death."

She goes on to blast City Council for the recent pay raises, Career Service Employee, Cathy Donohue, and Channel 8 for waste producing the web page and show, "The Magic of Denver Government." What fun. I think Ms. Calhoun has framed many of the negatives that'll come up in the campaign this year. Thank you Patricia, it was a slow political news weekend so far.

Update: I think that it would be good for Patricia Calhoun and Byron West to get together and talk some time. Calhoun's criticism of the effort by DenverGov and Channel 8, to increase democratic participation in the May 6th election, deserves analysis by the City. So to promote communication: Ms. Calhoun please e-mail Byron West, and Ms. West, please e-mail Patricia Calhoun.
