LA Times - Internet Users Drive S. Korean Politics

LA Times: "For years, futurists have been predicting that the Internet would displace television as the primary medium of political campaigns. The moment has come in South Korea, where about 70 percent of households are connected to the Internet."

Dave Winer - Why Weblogs are Cool

I've been lamenting the lack of candidate weblogs in this year's municipal election. I've struggled a bit in describing the opportunity. Then along comes Dave Winer to help explain what I've been trying to say.

2003 Denver Mayoral Election

The Community College of Denver held a mayoral forum yesterday that was sparsely attended. Well it was freezing cold, it started at 7:30AM, and was not publicized that well. What did they expect? The Denver Rocky Mountain News was there and they filed this story. The Denver Post also is running a story on the forum, "Colleges are worried about the likely cuts from higher education budgets because of the state's fiscal crisis."

There is one obvious area that the mayoral candidates are not using to get the word out, weblogs. There are complaints that 30 seconds on an issue at a forum attended by a few voters is not very effective. Contrast this to being able to write a thoughtful opinion, in their own words, on their weblog, giving them the potential to reach many more voters through the web. Candidates, start your weblogs! It's not too late. I can have you up and running in a couple of hours and you'll be able to link your weblog from your website if you have one. If you really want to reach voters and get their vote talk to them in your own voice by writing a weblog.

The Denver Post is running a story on affordable housing. They include the views of many of the mayoral candidates. From the article, "This will all lie on the doorstep of City Hall when a new generation of city leaders is elected May 6."
