Dennis Ritchie - The Evolution of the Unix Time-sharing System

Dennis Ritchie: "What we wanted to preserve was not just a good environment in which to do programming, but a system around which a fellowship could form. We knew from experience that the essence of communal computing, as supplied by remote-access, time-shared machines, is not just to type programs into a terminal instead of a keypunch, but to encourage close communication."

2003 Denver Municipal Election

The first Denver Decides forum is scheduled for tonight at the Scheitler Recreation Center in North Denver. The City Council District 1 candidates are scheduled from 6:00PM to 7:30PM with the mayoral candidates taking the floor from 7:30PM to 9:00PM. E-mail from Zavaras says that he will be at the Police Protective Association Building tonight at 6PM. I guess he then plans to head over to Scheitler for the forum at 7:30PM.

The Denver Post has an article about the runoff elections. They say that Ari Zavaras, if he makes the runoff, will have the all important position on the top line of the ballot. From the Post, "The slate of at least eight likely candidates means a runoff is all but assured, and the city has budgeted for two elections. The winner must get 50 percent of the vote, plus one. Runoffs also are expected in the auditor's race and several City Council district races. The top two vote-getters in the council at-large race will win outright."

2003 Denver Mayoral Election

Don Mares and Ari Zavaras are featured in this story in the Denver Rocky Mountain News. Public safety is the topic. Mares was at the state capitol yesterday speaking out against the law that would prohibit Denver from enforcing stricter gun laws than those passed by the state or feds. Zavaras was speaking out for being prepared in the aftermath of 9/11. The Denver Post is also running an article on Zavaras' plan.

The Post is also running a story about a mayoral debates on May 3rd and May 31st at Denver University sponsored by the paper.
