Dark Energy
Slashdot: "The announcement will effectively demolish the theory that life will be wiped out in a "big crunch" when the universe collapses, and should end decades of academic dispute. Scientists ranging from Stephen Hawking, the Cambridge University physicist, to Albert Einstein, have argued that the universe eventually will stop expanding and then implode under the force of gravity, destroying all life. " Dark Energy would be a good name for a Rock and Roll band.

The New Face of News Gathering
The BBC gets the Internet. They are attempting to build a community around digital photographs of current events. Communities, according to Simon Phipps, are built around a common interest and a common vocabulary. In IT the common vocabulary includes standards.
The link came from Dave Winer who is introducing weblogs to Harvard this spring.

2003 Denver Municipal Election Issues - New Jail
The overcrowding of the current jail and the need for a new jail is the subject of this article from the Denver Post. They frame it as a problem the new Mayor will have to face. They're wrong, it's a problem the new Mayor and Council will have to face. This should be one of the subjects discussed when you are talking to the candidates this year. From the article, "Only two mayoral candidates support buying the building, and none have firm ideas about how to address the crowded jail." Better get some ideas. Maybe the Feds'll bail us out. Heh.
