2003 Denver City Council Election

I attended Kathleen MacKenzie's formal announcement as a candidate for City Council District 7 today. A good time was had by all. Bill Himmelman(sp?) lead off describing MacKenzie as a candidate that has the "experience" along with the "vision to lead." Councilwoman Elbra Wedgeworth followed citing how the two council members had become fast friends and praising MacKenzie for tackling the horrific job of revising the City Charter.

MacKenzie then addressed the crowd. She did the usual introductions of neighborhood business people, expressed excitement at being able to announce at the Gates plant site and introduce the neighborhood to the plans to redevelop. She claimed that the Gates site is poised to boom as LoDo was 10 years ago. She mentioned several priorities for the next 4 years, including parks and trails and mass transit.

Many players from around the city were present. Candidates and elected officials included, Jim Raughton, Susan Rogers, Doug Linkhart, Tony Robinson, Carole Duncan, Franklyn Judson, Debbie Ortega, Ed Thomas, Elbra Wedgeworth, Paula Sandoval, John Hickenlooper, Ari Zavaras, Landri Taylor, Paul Rosenthal, and Happy Haynes.

Paula Saraceno Starts a Weblog

Paula Saraceno is the first candidate in the 2003 Denver Municipal Election to start a weblog. She's running for City Council in District 4. You can view her weblog here. Way to go Paula. At least you're not afraid to talk directly to the voters in your district.

2003 Denver Mayoral Election

The Denver Rocky Mountain News is reporting that some Republicans are lining up behind Ari Zavaras. Individuals are urging Republicans to vote as a block to influence the election. The author of the article has quotes from a couple of candidates and staffers. I like Don Bain's line, "You don't want to irritate your base by appearing to be too much aligned with the Republicans." Bain was unable to unseat Federico Pena with the Republican vote and a large anybody but Pena vote when he tried back in the eighties.

DenverGov is running a story on a Mayoral Forum in Cherry Creek. The Forum will be on March 25th.
