Colorado Water
Here's an article from the Rocky Mountain News about the proposed water pipeline from the lower South Platte River that will bring water to the south metro suburbs [April 4, 2005, "Pipeline to quench thirsty south metro"]. From the article, "Initiated by East Cherry Creek Water and Sanitation District, the pipeline originally was going to extend only from near Barr Lake to E-470 near Aurora. The extended pipeline will also be wider. The $6.2 million construction cost will be shared by participants who also will have to pay part of the cost of acquiring water, as well as building pump stations and water-treatment facilities along the pipeline. Participating water districts include Castle Rock, Centennial, Inverness, Stonegate, Castle Pines North, Cottonwood, and Arapahoe County Water and Wastewater."
One benefit of our extended drought is the historically low levels at Lake Powell. The article, from the L.A. Times describes some of the sights that have been flooded for years.

Broadband
SB 152 has been amended to be more favorable to municipalities offering broadband wireless services, according to the Rocky Mountain News [April 4, 2005, "Cities eye wireless Net"]. From the article, "Colorado lawmakers are hoping to pave the way for the expansion of the information highway with a measure that would allow communities to set up their own wireless networks, as long as they get permission from voters if tax dollars are used. Ron Sege, chief executive officer of Tropos Networks, said a number of Front Range communities are already lined up to set up their own wireless Internet services if the state eases restrictions on competition with utilities...Senate Bill 152, which would allow local governments to install wireless antennas, goes before the House Local Government Committee on Tuesday. The bill originally would have barred municipalities from competing, but an amendment will allow it as long as voters approve."
