Peace activists gather for 43rd march
They're marching for peace in Telluride, according to the Telluride Daily Planet. They write, "Determined not to let the war in Iraq fade from the public consciousness, a dozen peace activists marched down Colorado Avenue yesterday at noon. The march takes place on the 11th of every month, to commemorate the victims of Sept. 11 and advocate peace around the world." Good idea

Dirt on Hickenlooper?
Daniel Brogan, writing on the 5280 weblog, points out the fact that if Mayor Hickenlooper enters the governor's race it could be a rough run. From the article, "These kinds of attacks, however, aren't aimed at Denver voters, or even, perhaps, suburban voters. The likely targets are voters in the rest of the state, and even more likely, Hickenlooper himself. Consider it a warning shot across the mayor[base ']s bow - enter the race, and we promise it'll be ugly. Our bet is that Hickenlooper won't be intimidated by such tactics (if he were, in fact, to decide to run). How the rest of the state reacts, well, that[base ']s another question altogether. With 80 percent of the state's electorate living here in the Front Range, it may not matter."

Bloggers == Journalists?
BBC: "Eight US newspapers and the Associated Press agency have thrown their support behind three bloggers sued by Apple. In March, Apple won the right to see the bloggers' e-mail records to find out who leaked information on upcoming products to them, which they published. The news organisations have now filed a court brief which says they should be allowed to protect their sources. If not, they said, it could make journalists wary of publishing stories which are in the public interest. Sources who give journalists details of corruption or wrongdoing are traditionally protected by law, if the story is in the public's interest."

Blizzard and overall snowpack
Sunday's storm was mostly a plains phenomena, according to the Rocky Mountain News [April 12, 2005, "Storm does little for state's snowpack"]. From the article, "The Arkansas River Basin, in south-central Colorado, received the biggest boost from the storm, with snowpack rising to 128 percent of average, up from 125 percent on Friday, according to the NRCS. But farther north, in the South Platte and Upper Colorado basins, readings changed barely at all, registering 82 percent and 96 percent of average, respectively. Areas within those basins are even drier. Denver Water recorded snowpack readings of just 79 percent above its reservoirs in those two basins."

Aurora will have water restrictions again this summer, according to the Rocky Mountain News [April 12, 2005, "Aurora council sets watering curbs again"]. From the article, "The City Council set yet another cycle of outdoor watering restrictions Monday because the city's supplies remain low. The rules will be in effect May 1 through Sept. 30. Aurora's water-storage level is at 52 percent - eight percentage points less than the amount leaders say is needed to remove the restrictions. Residents who live at even number addresses will be able to water Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, while those who live at odd numbers can water Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays."

Denver Justice Center
Here's a editorial in favor of building the new Denver Justice Center from the Denver Post [April 12, 2005, "Stay focused on need for jail"]. They write, "The city sorely needs a new jail. The existing Smith Road lockup, designed for 1,500 inmates, often holds more than 2,000. Tier-style cellblocks make it dangerous for staff and inmates alike. And it's risky to continue busing prisoners from Smith Road downtown to courts in the City and County Building where they encounter the general public."
