Wi-Fi
Here's an article from Glenn Reynolds on the subject of Municpal Wi-Fi. He writes, "As I write this, I'm in the back seat of a car heading down Interstate 81, accessing the Web via the Verizon EVDO card in my laptop. (And pretty zippily, too -- I'm getting around 150kbps even though I'm in the 'national access' coverage area, not the DSL-speed 'broadband access' area.) It rocks, and I'm delighted that Verizon is offering this service, even if the salesman who sold me the card last fall promised that Knoxville would be broadband by now, and it's not. But I really don't understand Verizon's hostile attitude toward free wi-fi, and especially municipal wi-fi. Once again, Verizon's CEO is disparaging the idea, and once again I wonder why anyone would consider municipal wi-fi a threat to things like the EVDO card that I have."

The Inside Dope
Check out the new weblog, The inside Dope : Denver City Council District 5, from Lynn Pressnall. What a great way to get out the word to Council District 5 and the rest of the City.

The latest post deals with a complaint from a constituent about possible racial profiling. Lynn and Councilwoman Marcia Johnson are using the weblog to generate a dialogue around City issues, reach out to constituents and increase service to the community.

Pope John Paul II
The Onion: "The soul of Pope John Paul, which entered heaven last week following a long illness, expressed confusion and disappointment Saturday, upon learning that the Celestial Kingdom of God to which the departed faithful ascend in the afterlife is significantly less luxurious than the Vatican's Papal Palace, in which the pope spent the past 26 years of his earthly life."

Brian Schweitzer
New West: "I just got off the phone with (Montana Governor Brian) Schweitzer's spokesman Adam Pimley, who says Schweitzer is not even considering a run for president in 2008. As for the speculation, Pimley says, 'The governor gets a good chuckle out of it.' Pimley says Schweitzer is committed to Montana and the people here and that he has no intention of ever leaving. 'He can't ranch out there,' he says."

Salt Cedar
Locals around McPhee reservoir are coming together to eradicate tamarisk, according to the Cortez Journal. From the article, "A plan to control tamarisk above McPhee Reservoir in the Lost Canyon region is starting to take root. Steve Miles, of the Dolores River-Tamarisk Action Group (D-TAG), said a $15,000 U.S. Forest Service grant has been secured to work on the eradication of about 90 acres on private ground within Lost Canyon. Thirty-one parcels, owned by 25 separate landowners, are being targeted near the upper Dolores River."
