This year's mayoral campaign is the costliest on record according to the Rocky Mountain News. From the article, "But Sondermann and other politicos were quick to point out that Denver elections in the final, frantic days change drastically and candidates who are long shots can still make it into a runoff." The Rocky is reporting that the mayoral candidates chose to leave the mudslinging behind that had surfaced Wednesday and Thursday. At a forum yesterday they stayed on message and relied on humour to reach out to the voters. I felt yesterday that it was really the two Denver dailies that were trying to drag the election into the mud.
Here's a nice historical look at mayoral elections in Denver since 1987 from the Rocky Mountain News. The message you should take away from this article is; If you haven't voted yet, do so. Anyone can win an election in Denver with or without leading in the polls. Vote early and vote often. The Rocky has a table listing runoff election results over the last few mayoral elections.
