2003 Denver Municipal Runoff Election

Here's the link to today's The Stump from the Rocky Mountain News.

Coyote Gulch will be at the Northwest Denver Debate tonight at the Masonic Temple on Federal close to the land of political nastiness, City Council District 1. Send your tough questions for the candidates to jworr@operamail.com.

2003 Denver City Council Runoff Election

Short article from the Denver Post dealing with the difficulties of City Council candidates in generating voter interest going in the runoff election. From the article, "But after months of campaigning, some voters are confused, irritable and sick of the attention."

An e-mail, disguised as being from Timber Dick's AOL account, is the subject of this article from the Rocky Mountain News. For the record, Dick's opponent in the June 3rd runoff, Rick Garcia, denounced the e-mail as being "absolutely repulsive."

2003 Denver Mayoral Runoff Election

The Rocky Mountain News reports that Don Mares is taking a more aggressive approach to the election. At a forum yesterday at the City Park Festival of the Arts Mares continued to point out differences between himself and John Hickenlooper at one point calling Hickenlooper a "naive politician." The Denver Post also has an article on the forum and endorsements in the mayoral campaign.

The Denver Post looks at some of the issues around businesspeople making the transition to leading cities as mayor. From the article, "But when those newly elected leaders arrive in the corridors of power, they bump into entrenched bureaucracies, wily political opponents and unruly critics." Yup, sounds like Denver to me. Heh.

Here's and editorial from the Rocky Mountain News about the city's budget crisis. It was interesting to read that the city was in the habit of deficit spending long before sales tax revenues went south. I work for the city and I wonder where the Rocky gets the idea that Mayor Webb worked out a deal with employees to cut the budget. Must have been one of those closed door, backroom, insider, deals.

Here's a short piece about the candidate's having to juggle parental duties while running for office.
