Getting 'connection refused' messages from editthispage.com so I'm not able to update my main Canuck site tonight. That's a drag 'cause I'll likely miss the 'page flip' deadline for Wednesday.

I wonder if it has to do with the big changes Userland made today.

O'Reilly: A Pressplay Test Drive. "There are too many stumbling blocks: not enough artists and songs to choose from, poor quality streaming, and too many restrictions on the music you've downloaded."  [Scripting News]

Half US Net access is via broadband. Good heavens [The Register]

Not nearly as startling as it sounds. Read the fine print: 20% of home users have broadband. Read between the lines: most of the broadband is access from work. Still, it points to the fact that people are ready for a richer experience online.

Straight Goods - Philippine president questions US-claimed al Qaeda link to local guerillas : "As the terror probe switches to southeast Asia, locals on both sides of the conflict in the southern Philippines sound alarm against rash American action "

gRadio transcribed a MacWorld article on outliners from 1987. He says "I am making this article available as a tribute to the quality that once was common in the media coverage of the computing industry. It is here to remind us of a time when there were more choices in available software, and when the computer industry media often took a more critical POV when doing a comparative review of the software."  [Scripting News]
Holy crap. Now that's a review. The same thing has happened with audio magazines. Some of them used to cover equipment seriously. Now they publish puff pieces to molify their advertisers. It's embarassing.

Thestar.com/Canada's face-saving deal angers activists in embattled nation: " Embracing a last-minute compromise proposed by Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, Commonwealth leaders agreed to defer any action until after the next weekend's vote in order to give election observers enough time to report on the balloting."
Compromise. It's the Canadian way.

Rock stars stand up for their rights. International Herald Tribune Mar 5 2002 8:54PM ET [Moreover - Arts and culture news]The Recording Artists Coalition, founded by Don Henley of the Eagles and by Sheryl Crow, was formed to take a stand on financial and creative issues pertaining to musicians, whose best interests sometimes conflict with the agenda of the Recording Industry Association of America, the record companies' trade group.

Canadian farmer finds big meteorite. CNN Europe Mar 5 2002 6:34PM ET [Moreover - moreover...]"I don't know anything about them except I found one. It was more a fluke that it turned out to be one. It was just a stone in the garage. Then it was a meteorite," said Wood.
Good quote. I love how the Canadian stories on CNN come via the 'CNN Europe' feed.

U.S. slaps import duties on steel, Canada escapes penalites. CBC Mar 5 2002 9:32PM ET [Moreover - moreover...]
Great, but . . . the cheap steel will now be dumped in Canadian markets and jobs will be lost here.
