Britt Myers reports a small problem with brand-new Power Mac G4s in a surprising area:
"I recently purchased a new 1gHz dual G4, and have found that out of the box, the system drive was brutally fragmented. Tech Tool Pro showed us 757 fragmented files. I thought I might have been an isolated case, but three other recent G4 buyers I know have also experienced extremely fragmented system drives. We all work with Pro Tools TDM systems, and as a result have had trouble getting our systems to work properly with the new G4s, until we discovered the fragmentation. Is this anything new? What is Apple doing to these drives?"

Hey Radio UserLand got a writeup on XML.Com. Thanks. A few minor corrections. The MP3 playlist stuff isn't present in Radio 8, nor is the chat functionality (both were in Radio 7). They renamed XML-RPC and didn't mention the support for OPML. Otherwise much appreciated, glad they mentioned that the outliner is an easy XML editor. [Scripting News]

It happened to Esme Vos, a Californian working as an intellectual-property lawyer in Amsterdam. She "broke down" and bought a new flat-screen iMac after 17 years as a diehard PC loyalist. "I never thought I'd buy anything from Apple, but I did," Vos wrote in an online piece for Europemedia.net.'

Brian Yoder: "I live next door to where Disney does most of its creative work and I know a lot of artists over there, and I can tell you that Eisner has no fans among the creative staff in any of his enterprises. Disney treats most of its creative people like garbage (why? because they can!) and they churn more talented people in and out of their doors than any large company I have ever seen." DaveNet : Eisner made over $700 million in 5 years: "They had a good thing going for a long time. The users got snookered into giving him all the money and none to the creative people. That's over. Imho, Eisner and his ilk were the pirates."Dave takes the head of Disney to task for attempting to take a moralistic stand on the issue of 'piracy'. Eisner makes outrageous amounts of money (easy target) on the backs of creative people.

O’Reilly: Learning the Mac OS X Terminal, Part 4. “Things really become interesting, however, when you take advantage of a little known feature of term files, the ability to define a command line to run when the window opens. Doing this allows you to create your own double-clickable run files that open in Terminal within a window of your exact specifications and run any command line (or script file) you can come up with.” [mac.scripting.com]
