News: Comet-hunting spacecraft disappears not long after "Signs" opens in the movie theaters. Coincidence? -- http://www.nytimes.com/2002/08/16/science/16COME.html

Comment: Did aliens destroy the craft to block us from finding out their secret plans for comets?

Probably not. Instead, it looks like the booster malfunctioned and blew the thing off course. Sigh. Another $50 million or so down the drain.

News: Military computer networks are ridiculously vulnerable -- http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A24191-2002Aug15.html

Comment: Thanks for Brandon for bringing this to my attention. Are they all nitwits in the Army? From reading the article, they failed to take even elementary precautions to protect their computer networks...precautions that any home user, trying to protect their Quicken checkbook, knows how to do.

And we're supposed to be confident that these men and women will know what they are doing when they invade Iraq?
