News: After more than a week of rain and clouds, I finally got to take a look through my scope last night.

Comment: I took Steven and Alexis with me, and man, I learned more about Lord of the Rings than I ever thought possible. They also seemed to enjoy being out in the woods and looking at the Moon.

We got to look at the three-quarter Moon, but the Moon was so low in the sky that the view was not outstanding. I've read on the Web that because of the Moon's orbit, it won't be really high in the sky for most of this year. Oh well...if it's clear tonight I'll try and zero in on some double stars.

News: Rumor that Apple may introduce an Apple handheld that will also be a cell phone -- http://www.nytimes.com/2002/08/19/technology/19APPL.html?8hpib

Comment: If it's as cool as the iPod, it will be a big hit. Some may scoff that the handheld field is already overcrowded, but that was also true of MP3 players, and the iPod has been very successful.

Everyone says that cell phones and handhelds are going to merge, which means that your handheld will be able to connect to the Internet. That got me thinking about what I'd like in an ideal cell phone/handheld/Internet device. What would be most fun for me would be the ability to access an instant, real-time weather report; to have the ability to snap a photo and e-mail to someone from the handheld; and be able to load documents (like a press release) in the device and e-mail them to people.

We're getting closer and closer to the day when all our electronic devices will be able to communicate with the Internet, and thus with each other.
