So, in the past two days, Mom, the Ski Boy, and I have made several pilgramages to the arts and crafts show that accompanies the annual Alaska Federation of Natives conference. The quality of work seems to get better and better with each passing year - all three of us picked up some tremendous pieces. The ivory work in particular is just outstanding.
I love it when AFN comes to town - folks come in from villages all over Alaska. Alaska is a huge state and we have a large and varied Native population: Natives from Southeast Alaska, Tribal Indians, Aleut, Inuit, etc...AFN is a giant reunion and folks are so happy to see each other.

This week's solar flare could actually affect GCI in a couple of ways: it could dink with our satellite and/or it could affect the repeaters along our undersea fiber that runs from Portland to Whittier.
I have to say, there is a definite coolness factor happening when one works for a company that actually cares about solar flares...
