And finally, the last geek birthday present: Today, Mom, the Ski Boy, and I picked out my birthday present from Mom. The little gem to the left is a Garmin E-Trex Vista. My very first GPS. I am so excited. My big goal is to start geocaching with this puppy. 9:36:44 PM    comment []

And speaking of geek birthday presents - the Ski Boy also got me - hold your breath here - a shredder! I got it up and working this evening and am now shredding to my heart's content. There is something deeply satisfying about shredding. 9:31:46 PM    comment []

I am such a geek stud. I installed my birthday linksys print server. I had to do some finagling unrelated to the print server. Hewey (my laptop) did not have the HP Photosmart Print driver installed and my HP installation CD was bad. So I downloaded and installed the print driver. However, even with the print driver installed, Hewey just couldn't seem to cope with an indirect connection to the printer. So, I unplugged the print server, pulled out my wireless card so Hewey couldn't see the wireless network (which would only confuse matters), and then plugged the HP printer directly into Hewey. Hewey liked that configuration and we printed successfully. So, I then unhooked the printer from Hewey, hooked the printer back up to the print server, put my wireless card back in and voila, Hewey could now see and print to the HP. Totally great. So I can now print from anywhere in the Ski Boy/Slat Rat Manse. This stuff is so much fun! 9:25:45 PM    comment []

Today was an amazingly crappy day weather-wise. 40 degrees F, pouring rain, and very gloomy. Total Ugh... This is Alaska. Not Seattle. I am concerned that we're going to have a repeat of last year's totally hideous winter. 9:13:54 PM    comment []

Yea!!!!! The Marlins win The World Series. The "Fins" aren't the Red Sox or the Cubs, but they're a great young team that I've followed all year. And how can you not like the Jack McKeon story - it's nice to see a respected old guy win his first World Series at age 72. While managing a team of kids that could be his grandchildren. And to top it off, the Marlins beat the Yankees. In Yankee Stadium. That's pretty sweet. 9:07:38 PM    comment []
