This evening, the Ski Boy and I saw Lost in Translation.

What a great little movie - it's not perfect, but its positives are just so wonderful. Sophia Coppola has a wonderful ear and eye for her characters. She gives her actors a ton of room in which to work. And Bill Murray and Scarlett Johannson are wonderful. This has to be the best performance of Murray's career and I loved Johannson - smart and funny and comfortable with who she is. Actually both Murray and Johannson are amazingly comfortable in their bodies - there is no "skin" in this movie - except for a hilarious scene in high class peep show. No, the two actors just demonstrate an everyday physical being that is rare in moviedom.

Anyhoo - it's a wonderful little movie. And I've never seen a movie that does a better job of depicting the "out of sorts - jet lagged otherness" one can experience when traveling.

As I blog, I'm installing Garmin's MapSource MetroGuide USA maps on my GPS (via an incredibly slow serial connection). I spent a few hours this afternoon playing with my eTrex Vista - it is so fun. I drove the Ski Boy nuts on our way to Nordstrom's this afternoon - I gave him a running commentary on distance driven and walked, time moving, time stopped, and our elevation. Is this not cool or what?!
