It's been a yawn of a year in technology Canada.com, Canada - Rip Van Winkle could have slept through 2002 and not missed much in tech-land. I'm betting the same will hold true for 2003. Information technology is mired in a sticky rite of passage, a prolonged transition as corporations and consumers struggle to digest the newfangled digital stuff they bought in the 1990s. They're still trying to figure out which technologies will remain relevant -- and which are destined to become relics -- when the shakeout ends. The story from Leslie Walker, The Washington Post.

The Year Ahead: Linux continues to push for the desktop ZDNet.co.uk - The open-source operating system is making slow progress onto the desktop, but recent developments could mean it is there to stay. The good news for Linux as an operating system for the desktop -- as opposed to the server -- is that it is set to become No. 2 after Windows in the next year or so. The bad news is that its growth does not look to be as explosive as some advocates might have hoped.
