Palestinian PM quits Melbourne Herald Sun, Australia - By LARA SUKHTIAN. PALESTINIAN Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas, increasingly unpopular and worn out by a power struggle with Yasser Arafat resigned last night, dealing a serious blow to a US-backed peace plan.
Arafat was last night considering the resignation. If he accepts it, he has two weeks to name a new prime minister, according to an unnamed senior Palestinian official.
Perhaps Arafat will grow tired of replacing the puppets and give the new Prime Minister real power. Better yet, maybe he will have an open and fair election. Let his people choose.
