Several Gen-Y friends have told me about 20six as a free blog that is friendly to camera phones.

Much of the stuff appears to be garbage, but this may be a good deal for posting and sharing with friends.

Another fun Gen-Y activity is gaming friendster. Jessica has related some great stories about building slightly artificial social nets embedded in real social nets.

C.L. Strong was a god. He probably inspired more people to think about the physical sciences as anyone. For years he ran Scientific American's The Amateur Scientist column - back during the days when people actually built things. (sadly they dropped the column several years ago when they re-targeted the magazine to a more general population.)

The Society for Amateur Scientists keeps his spirit alive and offers a CD of old columns - this sample details the construction of sensitive pressure gauges.

Over the past few years I've helped a half dozen people with home WiFi installations - it is amazing how non-optimal most installations are. The techniques in this Slate piece are obvious, but it should be stressed that if you want it everywhere you probably need multiple base stations.

For some fun try monitoring your packet stream while using a 2.4GHz phone around WiFi. In fact you can often see problems with a microwave oven ... of course this sort of intermittent activity isn't much of an issue with normal Internet traffic, but it kills Voice over Internet and can severally impact streaming media. I have run into decision makers in powerful companies who are pretty clueless on this issue. ( ... "wifi is magic ... who needs physics..." :-)

If you have been looking at the Digitalphono2.0 site that links from this page, my apology. I've been using a tool called iBlog and the current beta really screwed up many of the html links. At this point I'm too lazy to edit everything by hand. When I get a bit of time I'll see if I can write a script and fix it.
