IdleAire seems like a great idea - it is surprising that it hasn't been done before.

It probably is environmentally sound (at least it displaces a dirty activity) and probably saves money for its users and makes it for its owners.

There is an assumption that porn drives the early adoption of some new technologies (VCRs notably) and many have suggested the early killer app for 3G phones would be - well - pretty sleazy stuff. (over the years I've been to quite a few new service proposals where porn is verbally suggested (never in the formal viewgraphs) as the first profitable application).

The BBC did a radio piece this morning on the subject and a few researchers noted that porn is unlikely to drive 2.5G camphone and 3G services. There were a variety of reasons, but the most compelling is that selling ringtones is already a larger business than all of netporn!

Microsoft recently announced they are dropping further browser development for the Macintosh. They also dropped stand-alone browser development for Windows noting that, in the future, new features will be more closely tied with their OS.

It was nice to have IE Explorer when OS X was very young. At the time the only competitor had some stability and speed problems. Microsoft didn't dramatically improve the product and a rich competition for OS X browsers was created that, eventually, included one from Apple. At this point I haven't had Exploer on my Macs for six months and can't say I miss it.

I don't know how common this is, but my iPod tends to generate comments in public. People have to listen to it, feel it, play with the controls - it is amazing how attracted people are to the object. The standard question is "will it work on Windows?" (yes, but the library software is really grim in comparison with iTunes and you are stuck with mp3 ...").

The other device that gets comments is my PowerBook. When people start a conversation they generally grumble about their Windows problems...

very strange.
