NetNewsWire is a very nice news aggregator.

A new version has been released along with a sale (through the end of June). This piece of software has changed the way I interact with the Web. I've seen several competitors (mostly on the Windows side as I've evangelized news aggregators over the past few months), but nothing works as well as this one.

Does your family require a toaster that can crank out 195 pieces of toast an hour?

Perhaps in some families ...

(cracking toast, Gromit!)

A year ago Avi and I worked for the same organization. He has acquired a non traditional taste in computers.

More and more serious users are becoming switchers. Avi is very serious when it comes to security and he has shown an interesting taste in gadgets (which seems to be a hallmark of the security crowd).

There has been a good deal of rumor and speculation on the new professional line of Macs that might be announced on Monday. I certainly don't have any direct knowledge, but there are a few things I would really like to see that might make sense .

  • a 970 based laptop. The 15" size is the most appropriate for me, so I'll wish for that.

  • cluster boxes. Apple has been doing quite a bit of work on clustering with some academic friends. It would be very nice to have two and four processor cluster boxes with reasonable industrial design (read - fairly quiet). This would be a nice way to sell additional boxes into some academic and research fields. Many people would be very happy with four to 16 processors if they didn't have to build and spoonfeed a cluster (more than that and it is likely you are concerned about the lowest possible cost).

The solstice is on us today.

I have just found an interesting piece of astronomy software that is used with Mathematica. Not cheap, but an amateur sky watcher who already has Mathematica would probably find it a useful tool.

Somehow I can't imagine an eclipse from an airliner as being that dramatic. Of course it could be over exotic territory.

Hopefully they will clean the windows - I haven't been on a flight with clean windows in over 20 years.
