Mmmmm. Food.

So tonight, I cooked. I made my favorite wine sauce with pasta and for dessert, below's the recipe.

Tom's Great Wine Sauce
Ingredients:

  • One Large White Onion, sliced
  • One package mushrooms,
  • Three cloves of garlic, diced
  • Two tomatoes, diced
  • A little red wine, cabernet, zin or merlot
  • A little oregano
  • A few basil leaves
  • Pinch of Salt

First the sauce. Slice the onion, dice the garlic, wash the mushrooms. That done, fire up the stove and get a saucepan hot. A little olive oil, please. Saute the onions and mushrooms with the garlic and a dash of oregano, and red pepper. Once the onions begin to get translucent, and the mushrooms a little soft, add the wine in. The mushrooms will soak it up and the onions will stain a bit purple. This is where you season. Tonight I added basil leaves, a little salt and a little more oregano. Very good stuff. Right before you serve, add the tomatoes. They'll stay warm, but not get soft and mushy.

Dessert was Strawberries, with Grand Marnier Whipped Cream. Um, Wow. SO good. Next time, I'm going to whip the cream a bit more. But it was a half pint of whipped cream with a shot of Grand Marnier, whipped with my new rotary beater.

I am indeed sated. And off to do dishes.

Questions, and Pictures.

A picture named Liberties.jpg

This afternoon, Tiffany and I went down to the Tidal Basin to see the Sakura and take a lot of photos. We stopped at the Jefferson Memorial, my favorite in the DC area, for in its hallowed halls lie much history about the beliefs of our forefathers.

The first and foremost of concern of our founders was that our citizens been free from tyranny, both domestic and abroad. That tyranny includes the acts of other nations with attempts to harm both us as a nation, and the world in which we live. No one should live under tyranny. Anywhere. Ever.

And the price of such liberty is often human life, but is life under dictators and tyrants worth living at all?

Not all of them came out as I preferred, but they work.

The Greatest Show On Earth

I took Tiffany out to the Circus tonight at the Patriot Center. It was amazing. The Ringmaster was absolutely incredible, it was much more demanding than I expected, especially when you figure they're doing it thrice daily. There were parts of it that were incredible and were just the right length, but there were other segments, specifically, the Tiger act, that could have used some length and polish. Overall, I was very very impressed.

The clowns were quite good, working elements of popular culture, physical comedy and a little ridiculousness to entertain us. It was a very surreal event, there was so much overcommercialisation, the vendors nearly outnumbered the patrons, hawking stale-looking popcorn, cheap hats with cotton candy, funny toys that light up.

There was a lot that was wonderful, that would beguile someone younger than I, or those who are willing to disbelieve, but I find myself drawn to the "how it works" from the cannon, to the tiger cages, to the acrobats. I found myself looking where I shouldn't have been, and then feeling guilty about destroying the illusion, both for them as performers, who have a craft, and for me as an audience member.

I've got pictures, but my camera battery ate it and is recharging. I'll put that gallery up in the AM.

To those joining the broadcast already in progress from Instapundit, welcome! Feel free to comment where you please.
