Musical News.

I've waited this long, and I know that I shouldn't have, and I apologize. That being said: If you're going to be in the DC area on May 2nd (this Friday) or May 16th (two Fridays hence), you should come hear me sing. On May 2nd, I sing with Choralis, we're performing Elijah, and then on the 16th, Echos will perform A Choral Tapestry including music in 11 languages.

Better yet, I have two soli in the second concert.

So please, if you are even remotely interest, come hear us. If you want tickets or directions, please leave a comment below and I'll email you the details.

Music as Persistent Memory

For me, my memory is crystalline clear when it comes to one thing: Music. It's what has driven me much of my life, and an influence that I cannot live without, it's one thing that runs through my life like a deep and rushing river. My memory is tied to sounds, music, voice, all of these meld together and work as triggers. Play me a song and I can tell you a lot about who it's associated with, much as a theme song is to a television show, so music works for people in my life.

What excites me about music is the depth to which it provides more than just a voice, it can express emotion like words cannot, it can express so much with so little effort. It adds a whole other dimension. Much as a picture is worth 1000 words, so is a song, sung well.

This is why I am enthralled with the new Apple music service. My first song? U2's "Stuck in a Moment" acoustic. So enthralled. I will write more later, I can't be late to rehearsal tonight!

Surviving Sunday

So, despite my picture taking efforts, there was not a lot I accomplished on Sunday except continued breathing. Which, considering the pollen counts in the DC area is a remarkable achievement. I think it's time to get Dr. Vallone to prescribe me some Real Drugs® to go with my very real allergies.

Last night, Tiffany and I went to see Mitch Hedberg at the DC Improv. The opening act, a local fella named Steve, was pretty funny. He had some good jibes about virginity, alcohol, NASCAR, Jewel (ha ha!) and some other stuff. The middle act was Mitch's wife Lynn. Lynn, if you're reading this, please, please, please consider a career other than comedy. You're cute, but really, you are not that good at comedy. Perhaps I caught you on an off-night, or you were tired, but really, you weren't funny. At all.

Mitch, however, was in good form and I got more than a few guffaws at his jokes, some new, some from his Letterman routine (this guy needs to do more Letterman, folks.) and some from the last time he was in DC. The thing I really truly like about Mitch Hedberg is the fact that his jokes are never quite the same twice, but they're always funny. Like, in similar fashion, this photoshop contest is funny.

I'm spending the day learning how to revive my coworkers. Here's hoping I never have to use it.
