ELECTION WOES Consortium: "George W. Bush's vote tallies, especially in the key state of Florida, are so statistically stunning that they border on the unbelievable." LA Times: "Ohio election officials said Monday that they would begin this week the final count of 155,428 provisional ballots and an unknown number of overseas absentee ballots that were cast in the presidential election. The Ohio count is attracting scrutiny by groups who say the election was tainted and that voting equipment in Ohio, Florida, South Carolina and elsewhere was defective. On Friday, three congressional Democrats asked for a federal investigation." AlterNet: "Common Cause of Ohio and the Alliance for Democracy, a progressive coalition, Thursday announced they were launching a recount campaign for Ohio. Columbus, Ohio attorney Cliff Arnebeck, who represents both groups, said both the Green Party and Libertarian Party presidential candidates would seek a recount if the $110,000 filing fee could be raised." But will it be possible to find any proof of wrongdoing? If Homeland Security really has tampered with the votes, they will have made sure the proof has disappeared. Moreover, the Democratic leadership does not seem eager to follow this lead. On the one hand there is the catastrophic legacy of the first Bush term (who would really want that?) , and on the other the fact that Democrats nowadays are more corporate Democrats. 1:19:40 PM
