Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

A Few Thoughts

Kay (my wife) has been away on holiday with her mother and sisters for 10 days. That left me home to take care of the kids, the dogs and the chores, along with a my work at UEN. It hasn't been easy.

It has given me a better appreciation for her. And for all those who work at maintaining a household. The greatest frustration is just how fast everything gets undone. I've come to realize that the children really do believe that some maid follows them around cleaning up after them and looking out for them. What other explanation could there be for their behaviour.

Kay called last Sunday and asked if I'd been relaxing around the house. Hardly! I had been going since 7:30 that morning with no break. Something I'm sure she has done many times. She suggested that I could have Bob help out. What? Was she kidding? I'd asked him 3 days in a row to vacuum his room and the hallway upstairs. Still no results.

So, my schedule has kept me from being a diligent blogger. That should improve with her return yesterday.

On another note:

The dogs and I went for a long walk this morning. I decided to explore a new route back. We discovered a family of skunks and the boys got sprayed. Before getting back in the house they both participated in a good old-fashioned backyard bath. This isn't the first skunk incident. So we've searched for and found a good skunk deodorizing formula:

1 quart hydrogen peroxide
1 cup baking soda
1 tablespoon dish soap

Season to taste (just kidding). Give it 15 minutes on the dog before rinsing.

It's a good formula to have on hand, along with the ingredients, if you live in skunk habitat.....
