Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

C.L.E.A.R

According to Bill Jensen, author of "Simplicity", there are five basic questions a person asks when confronted with a new assignment.

These are:

1. How is this relevant to what I do?

2. What, specifically, should I do?

3. How will I be measured, and what are the consequences?

4. What tools and support are available?

5. WIIFM - What's in it for me?

"Simplicity", Page 72

The quickest way to move from conversation to action is to concentrate on answering these five questions.

An interesting aside. Which question is asked most often. Did you guess:

5. WIIFM - What's in it for me?

That's wrong, according to Mr. Jensen. He says that the most often asked question is:

4. What tools and support are available?

I'm not sure that I buy that. At least if asked in that form. Most of us wouldn't even be able to form this question. I probably would ask the question this way:

"What resources are available?"

Mr. Jensen transforms these five questions into C.L.E.A.R. More about that later.......
