Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Sublime to Ridiculous

I was walking up on the mountain earlier this week. The dogs and I had just come down from one of the big cliffs above my house. I heard some talking and turned. On the apex of the cliff, with the sun directly in their faces, stood a young couple. They had taken time to hike to this beautiful vista. I could see them clearly.

The young girl was looking out across the valley, taking in the view. The young man, standing by her side, had his hand to his face. Yes, he was talking on a cell phone. It was hearing his voice that caused me to turn and see them.

I was close enough to hear what was said. He was talking to a friend about being on a hike. He stood there talking for several minutes. I finally turned and walked away. What a sight.

We are turning into a civilization that is never really there to experience anything. What would it matter if he were on a hike, or sitting in his family room watching TV. Or playing on his X box.

Cell phones. Really unfortunate..........
