Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Management 101

"Whenever I go into new situations, the first thing I ask is, 'What would you like me to see?........Show me whatever you think is important.' Why would anyone work 40, 50, 60, 70 hours a week if they didn't like what they are doing and think it is important?" -- Mel Goodes, Former Chairman, Warner-Lambert

This quote is taken from page 47 of the book Simplicity. I like this idea.

I want to like my work. I want it to be important.

More to the point. I want to be part of creating a culture where we all like our work and where that work is important. It's a big challenge. I offer it to all of my colleagues at UEN and all of my fellow government employees. And to myself..........
