Clapton.... Anybody know whether this is true: I read somewhere years ago that Eric Clapton's passport states his profession as "Guitar God". Does the British Passport list a profession? I think it should read "Slow Hand", although "Guitar God" works for him as well...somehow you need to play electric guitar to be a Guitar God. That puny guitar sound amplified a million times...larger than life, heroic even...sometimes turning comic book heroic...

Double string holes... Eric started doing this a few years back. Not a new idea, but a very good one I think. Two holes per string...a clean path, no twisting - except for the 1st string, which is too small and slippery. I am too lazy to do before and after recordings of the same guitar to see whether it actually improves the sound, but it seems like it should have a positive effect. Less twisting of the string, better vibrations - and great vibrations are what we are after, yes? I took the photos for Lester, who will incorporate a bridge like this into my new guitar, which by the way won't be a Negra. At first I wanted to get a duplicate of my DeVoe Negra, which has quickly become my favorite guitar, a backup for touring - just in case something should happen...(like the time in Dallas in 1996 when the wooden peg in my Vizcarra guitar just snapped and I begged Keith to make and send me a new peg overnight)...Anyway, I decided that making a copy of a favorite guitar would be like cloning a pet or something, and instead I settled on a very traditional Flamenco Blanca with a Cedar top and Cypress sides and back. It will have a slightly brighter and thinner sound and would compliment the Negra, rather than replacing/duplicating it...
Check out the Bling-Bling inlay on the bridge of this guitar for Vicente Amigo. My new Blanca will say:
O T T M A R GUITARGOD
...just kidding....

Saturday Morning Walk I took a walk very early this morning...there were grey skies all around, except for one hole....through which the sun lit up this hill...

La Semana I am up to 17 new songs for the next album...the best 12 will be released on the album and the remaining 5 might become downloads from a secret URL you can find only on the inside of the CD package.

Thai Buddha 1978 I took this photo of a Buddha statue while traveling in Thailand in 1978. The red chop (stamp) on the right is my Chinese name.

Tear the house down.... You say you want to listen to Flamenco - with a singer who is powerful enough to tear the house down and a guitarist with an amazing machine gun rasguado backing him up? Look no further: search for the album "Canto" by "El Pele & Vicente Amigo". I found it on amazon.de, the German arm of amazon.com and ordered it from there a few weeks ago because the US and UK sites did not have it. And yes, I believe that could be a Lester DeVoe Negra you are hearing Vicente play on this CD...

The Brazilian government has retaliated against a US plan to fingerprint Brazilian visitors to the US by fingerprinting US visitors to Brazil. The judge who enacted the regulation has exempted citizens of countries whom the US intends to fingerprint from the Brazilian requirement. [BoingBoing]
