"The music business is a dark, plastic hallway; where pimps and thieves run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side." - Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

For those light-at-heart and animal lovers out there, Solid Alliance (Japan) has released a new i-Duck USB Memory Storage device. The i-Duck uses a USB 1.1 interface and has a maximum storage capacity of 16MB. When plugged into your computer’s USB port, the i-Duck will light up. Three different colors are available: pink, yellow and blue. A three color set is also available.

I think Apple made a mistake with the iPod Mini. The idea of going after the low-end of the market is great, but the price point seems too high to me. Why would anybody spend $249 on the 4GB iPod Mini instead of $299 for the 15GB iPod. (I have the 15GB and wish I had the 40GB - it would allow me to carry all of my music and have a bootable back-up system always with me...

The size difference isn't that much...flash memory isn't more reliable that harddrives as anybody with an electronic camera can attest to...ah, must be the cheesy colors - Miami Vice is back and they will have a tie-in?...but you can always buy the regular iPod and colorize it

I think if they cold have reached a price of $149 or even $199 they would fly out the store...

Did you seeSteve Jobs’ keynote at Macworld today? What did you think of GarageBand?  Juniorstuff, or cool?

I have mixed emotions about it.

Why would a child attempt to spend years learning a musical instrument when s/he could be making music with GarageBand instantly? It takes about 2-3 years of practicing to make music on any 'real" instrument.

I envision a boy, two hundred years from now, who learns trumpet from old movies, because nobody plays the instrument anymore and there is no teacher who can show him.... - that reminds me of the story about the Duke Ellington Orchestra playing in Paris and checking out a French jazz band. The French trumpet player had a "funny"" sound......because he was imitating how the American Trumpet player sounded on a grammophone....

On the other hand it would be a great tool for a student to practice along cool loops rather than having to play to a metronome all of the time. It would be especially cool for the difficult Flamenco rhythms. Buleria for example can be divided into 3+3+2+2+2 = 12/8 and that's a little harder than your regular Rock and Roll beat....

It would be interesting to create student kits of loops to practice to, like Flamenco or other world rhythms....kinda like all of the Keynote presets available....I hope somebody comes up with that.

Oh, and this explains why Apple bought Logic a year ago...the Logic software probably provided Apple with all of the underlying code to do GarageBand....
