Live, from Klamath Falls, Oregon
Here I am in Klamath Falls. My digital camera has had some problems so I can't show you any new photos. I am on my way to Spokane to see my sister. Lura is undergoing Interferon chemotherapy and she has been pretty sick. I am looking forward to seeing her very much.
The drive to Klamath Falls went well. I have a lot of good memories from this area. I have been coming up here to photograph trains and to vacation for over 30 years. As I was driving here I thought a lot about the places I have been to and the people I have been here with. That made me think of my dad a lot, Candy and the kids when they were babies and friends like Dave Hardie, Kyle Brehm and Paul Burmeister. So many memories from so long ago. Even the railroads are different but places like Mount Shasta and Black Butte, those do not change. It feels really good to be driving and photographing trains.
There are a lot of mosquitoes here, though. I do not remember that! I did not bring repellent.
Catching up on stuff
Bob retired (and threw a party!)
While is was recovering Bob took an early retirement offer the CSU system made to faculty members. I will miss riding with him when I get back into the saddle. I think this is great for Bob and his wife, Nancy. But, I am going to miss him very much, both as a friend at SJSU and as a commuting buddy. Bob is great guy and an awesome cyclist. A few years ago I wrote an article about his cycling adventures for a cycling magazine, Cycle California.
We had a department retreat
On Friday we had our Academic Technology retreat at Campbell Community Center. This is also the same place where Susie and I met at a dance class. The provost talked to us then we met in marathon sessions to plan the future for our program. I think it was a pretty good session. I was in an interesting position as this week was the first week I was in my new job, not in a training mode. I learned a lot about my new co-workers in the process of attending this session.
